Business Education in Toronto

Lou and Natalie spent last weekend in Toronto at a two day Salon business course. It is taught by a stylist who has had a fantastic career in the UK and Australia. His name is Antony Whitaker and he now writes books and does educational and motivational speaking all over the world. We both came back inspired and ready to implement his great advice at ECHO. The best part of the classes was when the students from all over Canada shared our own insights and experiences with each other. This was the third and fourth in a series of five lessons.

ECHO's dedication to the hair industry has resulted in numerous honours and nominations such as the Business Women of the Year and the Global Salon Entrepreneur of the Year. We qualify each year to go to an academy in Europe to share education with our peers. ECHO has been fortunate to contribute to community charities donating to a wide variety of causes. We are a salon that believes in individuality so you won't find uniforms here. Common courtesy and mutual respect amongst the staff is apparent. Our clients are aged from 2 to 92, so we are a busy, dynamic salon with a vibrant atmosphere and an underlying professionalism. ECHO is 18-years-old, our prices are competitive and we always welcome students. We have a bilingual staff at every level and as a team, we inspire being inspired and having fun.

long hair tip

So, it's your scalp that gets dirty, greasy and flaky. The lengths of your locks don't need the cleansing that your root hair does so here's and idea I came across. Wet your hair, condition from the ears on down then shampoo your scalp area. Rinse it all off and condition again. All areas get happy.

Hair...brain true or false

1. brushing hair makes it grow faster   T or  F

2. excessive hair washing causes hair loss T or F

3. smoking can cause premature grey hair T or F

4. cutting hair makes it grow faster T or F

Answers: 

1. F.  brushing hair excessively does not help your hair in any way, in fact it can cause a hair loss condition called traction alopecia. Don't brush more than you need to style your hair

2. F, absolutely no effect on hair loss

3. T people who smoke are four times more likely to have premature hair

4. F. The cells inside your body responsible for hair growth have no idea whether or not you get a hair cut.

Unite versus Pureology

So, we made the tough decision to dump Pureology. We sold it like hot cakes, our staff was used to it and our clients trusted it. Pureology was sold to the giant L'Oreal a couple of years ago. Suddenly we saw it in Loblaws and Winners. We do not carry or support diverted product lines. We gave them six months to get their product out of these stores to no avail. Before we got rid of it, we did some research and found Unite; a still privately owned fairly young (7years) company where the owner is a stylist. These products go beyond Pureolgy with their ingredient list, or more importantly what's not in it. These products use food grade preservatives, are sulfate free, paraben free, Gluten free, Sodium chloride free, DEA and MEA free. They are 100% vegan and colour safe.
